Wet towel or cloth type cooling jackets cease to cool and begin to trap body heat as soon as the wet jacket reaches a dog's body temperature - quickly accelerating overheating.
The same type of problem occurs with horses when "wet toweled"; this information has been detailed in the Horse magazine's cover story, titled, "Heat Stress",July, 2003 (page 30). Please make others aware of this often unrecognized and unintentional problem. Wet, in many cases, is not cooler! Stay safe and cool.

**Monitor your dog for heat build up !**
Obviously, coated dogs will be most susceptible to heat build up problems! As every fabric will retain some body heat, remove K-9 Coolers when dogs are in the shade, unless you wet the Cooler and have adequate ventilation or a fan. Then, watch that dogs don't become too cold even on a hot day! You can make short coated dogs shiver! K-9 Coolers are amazingly efficient!
